Everyone loves a good refurb so join us to delve into Mike Wildman’s brand new shop. Introducing Classie Grooming.
Number Five Neston Road, Williston Village, Wirral is now the fourth home of Classie Dog Grooming.
Established by Michael Wildman officially in 2002.
Mike started grooming from his parents’ home in Elsmere Port. A small town just outside Chester. Initially working from the kitchen worktop, before being shunned to the garden shed by his parents.
Initially self-taught, it was clear that Mike had a real natural skill for grooming. He quickly built up a great reputation for his work. This allowed him to take the leap and set up his own salon in Brook Street, Chester in 2002. This is something he had always dreamed of. A small salon, with two grooming tables, and for the first time a proper groomers bath. He was all set to go.
Fast forward 5 years, Classie Grooming had established a fabulous and loyal list of clients. This included a broad variety of different breeds.
In 2009, Mike and the team relocated to Woodside Farm, just on the outskirts of Chester. The new location afforded him more space for an additional grooming table and off-road parking for his clients. Of course, his loyal customers followed him. Being centrally located between Chester and the Wirral, his client base continued to grow, as did the number of employees.
Closure of the business during lockdown, allowed Mike to stop and take stock of his achievements.
As his business had continued to grow, he had reconfigured the salon space as much he could. But it was now too small, and no longer practical.
Like lots of other businesses at this time, unsure of the future ahead. And without income, Mike made the decision that if Classie Dog Grooming was to keep up with the future demand, another move, to bigger premises was needed. By chance, whilst driving through Willaston Village, only 2 miles from home, Number 5 Neston Road was spotted, and not long later, the deal was done.
Lockdown restrictions now lifted, Classie was able to re-open. Whilst Mike and the team worked tirelessly to work through the backlog of over 300 dogs, his husband Darren, oversaw the project to create what will be Classie’s final home.
Thursday 23rd July, Classie Dog Grooming, at Woodside Farm closed, and reopened on Sunday 26th July in the beautiful village of Willaston.
The new salon has really put the ‘Classie’ into Classie Grooming. A double fronted shop, offering much more space, allowing for 5 well-spaced out grooming tables. A purpose-built storage and holding pens, and a glass partition which allows people to see in. It keeps the dogs secure and not distracted. However, for Mike, best of all is having a separate purpose-built bathroom, which holds two hydro baths. It has space for a grooming table and blasters, keeping all the wet hair and noise out of the main salon area. Having more space also allows for a retail section offering all things dog.
Mike and his team are delighted that they can continue to deliver a high-end grooming experience. Now an approved ICMG training school, Mike will be providing 20-week training courses for aspiring groomers wanting to achieve their CPG qualification,. They can then start working towards becoming ICMG (International Certified Master Groomer) accredited.
